The three inch mattress fits the pack n play with some slack on the sides which can be filled in with rolled up towel and then covered with a mattress cover. This mattress is soft and will give the baby a good place to sleep. One thing would have been nice to know before buying is the exact measurements of the mattress.

We have a Graco PNP that our 7 month old sleeps in and recently bought this mattress. Yikes, it is super hard. True what the other reviews have said about it not being deep enough. You have to put a blanket in the hole on the side. If you are looking for a REALLY firm mattress that doesn't really fit in a PNP then this one delivers. My girl had red marks on her head from where she slept on it. I slept on it a night and barely made a dent in it. We have since put her original mattress back in her crib.

I would never put a newborn on this mattress. It would be similar to sleeping the floor. Newborns need a firm mattress but this is ridiculous. Too firm. Amazon helped me return it easily and that was wonderful. I will be purchasing a 50 coil 6" thick mini crib mattress from Walmart, hopefully the next purchase is less rigid.
